Black, White and Beyond

Oh uh... he is reaching for it

Set aside the racial, social or class prejudices for just a moment, was a man voluntarily or involuntarily slaughtered?  Armed vs. unarmed, did this death by firearm not occur?

Hmmm... I am no legal expert but the Florida verdict of innocent of all charges is a little strange. If the local police were given the chance to handle this call, I doubt they would need to use any deadly force in this case.

So according to the Florida justice, there is no negligence on Zimmerman's part which led to the death of a teenager whatsoever. The key questions here are: Would his self-defense be necessary if he chose not to engage other citizen on his own? Where the defendant have had a right to self-defense but for the fact that he was the initial aggressor?

In this tragic case, I think even if they are both black or white, where race is not the issue, there is still a serious breach of justice. What we stand to lose here is more than black or white... how about our judicial sense itself? Currently, as it stands in America, while acts that harm other people (that may be motivated by racism) is illegal, racism in and of itself is not illegal. Now, does killing qualify as one of these acts?

So black, white or beyond, if citizens ever have to travel into Florida, they may be wise to get some target practice before departure. I thought gone are the days of gunslinger, but in Florida, fastest gun still speak for justice itself.  Perhaps, Florida is pushing its State's right a little too far, like back to 1845 - the good old days - when it is the hub of slave states.

Liberty Enlightening the World

Lady Liberty officially reopens today with ferry service to Liberty Island after it was closed due to Superstorm Sandy.

The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France to celebrate the centennial of America's independence. The Pedestal portion of the statue was built entirely by public donation as most money poured in as single-dollar donations from grandmothers and pennies from the piggybanks of schoolchildren.

In the end of fundraiser, the goal of $100,00 had been reached by more than 120,000 individual contributions. "Liberty Enlightening the World" is a true grassroots project in grand scale built by the people for the people.

Happy 4th of July!
